ARTIST STATEMENT

It’s all swimming. I dive into the flow and know the liquid light is all colors. My palette and brushstrokes follow. My words tread water until they float on the page. I submerge and go deep. I rise up, resilient and buoyant. Creativity is fluid. It’s all a work in progress that takes practice, practice, practice.

As a child, I learned to swim, make art, and write stories. Since first splashes and expressions, these activities have evolved and enriched my everyday life. They are ready remedies that helped me survive and thrive for nearly seven decades. The enduring movement of creativity enlivens my purpose and passion with the stamina of unconditional love. Creative self-care is doing what you love and what loves you. Swimming bears my weight, heavy and light. Painting bears my memory of all things seen, and dreamed. Writing bears witness to my experiences and speaks to the wonder and hopefulness of living a great story.

Now, the legacy of my life’s work is the regenerative energy of the creative source that pours everlasting from the pure fount of my being. I seek and see the beauty of nature and human nature, often from a swimmer’s-eye point of view. Like open water, I move with the tides and ride in the waves that carry me to the fertile waters of positive potential along the nurturing shores of the divine feminine. The confluence shines like a rainbow. Artist and writer, I catch the light to spark creative process. The water is alive, ancient and wise. Looking, listening, trusting - I keep the pace, with grace, and keep swimming.
