In My View
My artist's eye looks for color and light, I draw and paint my view. My writer's mind is curious and hopeful, I express the words of my creative true voice. My teacher's hands and heart show the way to art-making, art-taking and art-giving, I illuminate the story of creative wellness. The point of view I observe and create is inspired by art and hope, and seeing the beauty of nature and our human nature. In my view, things are looking up.
I am a studio artist and author in Maine. For more than two decades I've followed my passion as a creative wellness educator and practioner. The need and desire to pursue a healthful, artful life, both in my personal balance and to enrich how I support my community work, are what moved me to write my first book, Art HOPE The Way To Creative Wellness. Creativity is a movement, an organic mind-body-spirit process that promotes health, well-being, and happiness. Creativity is an essential life skill and it is our most renewable and valuable natural resource. It is a basic human requirement and a positive growth mindset that makes life better. I'm all in because everyone, everywhere can enjoy creativity every day. The book gives creative wellness a language and starting point for a larger community conversation about this important topic. Let's talk.
This website is a collection of the art and ideas I love and believe in. It will evolve as I move, change, and grow as a creative being, being creative. The things I publish on laurajaquays.com are the diverse images and expressions that make up my point of view. My peak creative epxerience is painting. The watercolors of water are informed by my penchant for open-water swimming. Some images reflect my "swimmer's eye" view of Maine's remarkable coastline and fresh water lakes. The Gallery is where I exhibit my original works of art. The Journal is where I post my creative wellness blog and more. Look for new articles and new ways that I will be crafting my images and words. This website has links to the nonprofit organization I have founded, Art HOPE, and news about updates and resources on www.arthope.org. It is all a work-in-progress that defines and refines my creative point of view. Thanks for looking, and seeing.
